Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.3.4.LI.1 - Discover the concepts and principles of coaching combat sports.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define combat sports and identify at least five examples of combat sports from Ghana and around the world.
  2. Explain at least four core concepts of coaching combat sports, including safety, technique, strategy, and athlete welfare.
  3. Describe the key principles that guide a combat sports coach, such as progressive training, discipline, respect, and individualised instruction.
  4. Compare and contrast coaching approaches for combat sports with those for team sports like handball or football.
  5. Justify, through group presentation, why certain coaching principles are essential for effective performance in a chosen combat sport.

Group work: In suitable groups, learners research from available relevant sources such as; (books, journals, the internet etc.) and discuss concepts and principles of coaching combat sports. Learners make presentations to justify their findings.
Activity-based learning: Using suitable approaches, learners plan on coaching combat sports for execution.
