JHS2 Science · Term 3, Week 9
Climate Change and Green Economy
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B8.5.4.1.2 - Describe climate change and green economy actions.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define climate change adaptation and mitigation, and distinguish between the two concepts with local examples.
- Identify at least four adaptation measures that communities in Ghana can apply to cope with the effects of climate change.
- Discuss at least four mitigation strategies communities can adopt to reduce the causes of climate change.
- Explain what a green economy means and give examples of green economy actions relevant to daily life in Ghana.
- Apply critical thinking to evaluate which adaptation or mitigation actions are most suitable for a given community situation.
The teaching sequence positions this lesson after learners have understood the concept of climate change and its environmental effects (covered in Week 9, B8.5.4.1.1). This lesson now moves learners from understanding the problem to describing practical actions. Later slots will extend into broader greening of tropical countries.
