Climate Change Adaptation

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.4.2.LI.2 - Discuss conventional responses to climate change.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define conventional responses to climate change and distinguish them from indigenous strategies studied in Week 17.
  2. Identify at least four conventional mitigation and adaptation strategies used in agriculture, such as improved crop varieties, irrigation systems, early warning systems, and greenhouse technology.
  3. Explain how conventional responses such as weather forecasting, crop insurance, and agrochemical use help farmers cope with climate variability.
  4. Work collaboratively in mixed-ability groups to research and present findings on a chosen conventional climate change response.
  5. Evaluate the strengths and limitations of conventional responses compared with indigenous strategies in sustaining rural agriculture.
