Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.1.1.LI.2 - Discuss the economic importance of some common simple living organisms (Rhizopus, Moss and Fern).

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State at least three economic benefits and two harmful effects of Rhizopus (bread mould) in Ghanaian homes and industries.
  2. Explain how mosses contribute to agriculture, horticulture and the environment, giving at least two specific examples relevant to Ghana.
  3. Describe the economic uses of ferns as food, medicine and ornamental plants, citing local examples where possible.
  4. Work collaboratively in mixed-ability groups to research, analyse and present findings on the economic importance of one assigned simple organism.
  5. Evaluate the overall economic contribution of simple organisms to Ghana’s economy, weighing both benefits and harms in a short written reflection.
