Algebraic Expressions

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.2.2.1.4 - Factorise given expressions involving the four operations and use the experiences gained to solve problems.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the greatest common factor (GCF) of the terms in a given algebraic expression.
  2. Factorise expressions by taking out common factors, including expressions with two or more terms.
  3. Factorise four-term expressions using the method of grouping.
  4. Use factorisation to simplify expressions and solve simple problems set in practical situations.
  5. Verify factorised results by expanding back to the original expression.
