2D and 3D Shapes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B2.3.1.1.1 - Identify the common features or attributes of a collection of 3D objects (spheres, cylinders, cones, pyramids, cubes) of different dimensions or orientations.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Name and recognise spheres, cylinders, cones, pyramids and cubes when shown objects of different sizes and turned in different positions (orientations).
  2. Describe the common features or attributes of each 3D object, including the number of faces, the shapes of faces, and the number of corners or vertices.
  3. Sort a collection of 3D objects using one or two features at a time and explain the sorting rule used.
  4. Identify and name at least three examples of these 3D objects found in the classroom or the local community.
  5. Justify why an object belongs to a particular group by referring to its features or attributes.
