Learning Objectives

Indicator: B1.3.1.1.2 - Identify three-dimensional shapes, including spheres, cylinders, rectangular prisms (including cubes), and triangular prisms and describe their attributes using formal geometric language

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and name at least four three-dimensional shapes: sphere, cylinder, rectangular prism (including cube), and triangular prism, when shown real objects or pictures.
  2. Describe the attributes of each 3D shape using formal geometric language such as faces, edges, and vertices.
  3. Sort a given set of 3D shapes using a single feature such as size or shape, and explain the sorting rule they used.
  4. Compare two pre-sorted sets of 3D shapes and state the feature that is different between them.
  5. Justify their reasoning when classifying shapes by giving a clear reason for their choices.
