Learning Objectives

Indicator: B1.3.1.1.3 - Identify two-dimensional shapes, including circles, triangles, rectangles and squares as special rectangles, rhombuses and hexagons and describe their attributes using formal geometric language

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Name and identify circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, rhombuses and hexagons from a mixed set of 2D shapes.
Describe the attributes of each shape using formal geometric language (sides, corners/vertices, straight, curved, equal, opposite).
Explain why a square is a special type of rectangle (it has 4 equal sides and 4 right angles).
Sort a given set of 2D shapes using a single criterion such as size or number of sides, and explain the sorting rule used.
Describe the difference between two pre-sorted sets of familiar 2D shapes using their attributes.
