Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.2.LI.2 - Examine the types of mass wasting

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify at least four distinct types of mass wasting from photographs and descriptions of real landscapes.
Classify mass wasting events into the correct category (creep, solifluction, slump, earthflow, mudflow, debris flow, rockfall, rockslide, debris slide) using characteristics of speed, material, and moisture content.
Compare and contrast slow versus rapid mass wasting processes using a table or diagram, noting at least three differences.
Match local Ghanaian landform examples (such as the Aburi hills, Akuapem ridge, or mining areas) to the most likely type of mass wasting occurring there, giving reasons for their choices.
Predict the type of mass wasting most likely to occur at a given site when provided with slope angle, rock type, rainfall data, and vegetation cover.
