Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.1.1.LI.1 - Classify Modern African art and changes that occurred in art making from 1900 to the 21st Century in relation to materials, methods, and their socio-cultural contexts.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Classify at least six Modern African artworks from 1900 to the 21st century into categories based on their themes, materials, and methods.
- Describe the changes in art-making materials and methods that occurred in Africa from the 1900s to the 21st century, citing at least three specific examples.
- Explain how socio-cultural contexts such as independence movements, urbanisation, and religious change influenced the making of Modern African art.
- Work in gender-sensitive groups to create a chart that categorises Modern African artworks according to period, theme, materials, and socio-cultural influences.
- Present and justify their classification choices to the class, demonstrating the ability to compare artworks from different periods within the 1900 to 21st century range.
