SHS3 Aviation And Aerospace Engineering · Semester 2, Week 6
Aircraft Maintenance
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.3.3.LI.2 - Identify aircraft maintenance equipment.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify the major categories of aircraft maintenance equipment (hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and support equipment) and give Ghanaian or international examples of each.
- Explain the purpose and importance of the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), the Illustrated Parts Catalogue (IPC), and the Aircraft Logbook as essential documentation and equipment in maintenance work.
- Match a given maintenance task (e.g., removing a panel, checking tyre pressure, torqueing a bolt) to the correct tool or equipment required.
- Demonstrate safe and proper handling of a selected set of simple maintenance tools (e.g., screwdrivers, spanners, torque wrench) following workshop safety rules.
- Describe how the misuse or absence of the right equipment can compromise airworthiness, drawing on reasoning from case examples (Level 4 depth of knowledge).
