SHS1 Agricultural Science · Semester 2, Week 19
Climate Change Mitigation Strategies
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.4.3.LI.1 - Discuss the effects of indigenous and conventional mitigation measures for combating climate change on agricultural production.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define climate change mitigation and distinguish it from adaptation using local agricultural examples.
- Identify at least four indigenous mitigation measures (such as agroforestry, crop rotation, composting, and bush fallowing) and four conventional mitigation measures (such as conservation tillage, drip irrigation, improved crop varieties, and solar-powered irrigation) used in Ghanaian agriculture.
- Explain the positive and negative effects of both indigenous and conventional mitigation measures on crop yields, soil health, and farm income.
- Evaluate a given mitigation scenario and justify which measure is most suitable for a specific farming community in Ghana, using evidence from the lesson.
- Present a short report on the effects of one mitigation measure, demonstrating critical thinking and respect for diverse opinions during group discussions.
