Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.2.LI.3 - Describe the interactions within the various key stakeholders in the commodity value chains.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • List at least six key stakeholders in a vegetable or ornamental commodity value chain from production to the final consumer.
  • Explain, using a simple diagram, how information, produce, and money flow between at least four stakeholders in a value chain.
  • Describe at least three specific types of interactions (buying, selling, advising, transporting, storing, financing, regulating) that occur between stakeholders.
  • Role-play a realistic exchange between two or more stakeholders, demonstrating the give-and-take relationship and the problems that arise when one actor fails to deliver.
  • Evaluate what happens to the whole chain when one stakeholder (for example, a storage operator) performs poorly, using a simple cause-and-effect reasoning.
