Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.1.3.LI.2 - Analyse the profitability of selected forms of irrigation

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Distinguish between initial capital cost, operating cost, and returns for drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, and manual watering systems.
  2. Calculate the cost of water applied and labour required for at least two forms of irrigation given simple data.
  3. Compare the profitability of drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, and manual watering for a specific vegetable crop scenario.
  4. Justify the choice of an irrigation system based on farm size, water availability, and crop type.
  5. Present a simple cost-benefit analysis table for a selected irrigation system.
