Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.1.2.LI.2 - Appraise emerging technologies in vegetable crop and ornamental plant production.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define appraisal and list at least three criteria used to judge whether an emerging technology is worthwhile for a vegetable crop or ornamental plant enterprise.
- Apply appraisal criteria (cost, feasibility, productivity impact, environmental effect) to at least two emerging technologies and justify their conclusions with evidence.
- Compare an existing technology with an emerging technology for the same production task, identifying at least one advantage and one disadvantage of each.
- Work in mixed-gender groups to research a selected emerging technology, analyse its feasibility and impact on farmers, and present a reasoned appraisal to the class.
- Draw a conclusion, supported by reasons, on whether a specific emerging technology should be adopted by a small-scale vegetable grower in Ghana.
