SHS2 Engineering · Semester 2, Week 9
Energy Efficiency and Conservation
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.2.3.LI.3 - Identify energy-saving tips for electrical equipment.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State at least five practical energy-saving tips for common electrical equipment found in homes and schools.
- Explain how each energy-saving tip reduces energy consumption (waste or loss) in an electrical system.
- Categorise energy-saving tips by equipment type (lighting, cooling, heating, appliances, and electronics).
- Justify the choice of specific energy-saving measures for a given electrical device found in their school.
- Analyse the cost and energy savings of applying an energy-saving tip using simple calculations.

Managing Talk for Learning: In a moderated discussion, learners discuss energy conservation measures for electrical equipment. Furthermore, learners compare varied measures to achieve common saving goals in various equipment and systems. Experiential Learning: Learners watch videos on energy savings in electrical equipment. Problem-based, Experiential and Collaborative Learning: In groups, learners assess selected facilities in their school to know the energy-saving measures in place and those that could be deployed. The groups present their findings to the class for comments Assessment (2.2.3.AS.3). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 3 Strategic reasoning.
