Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.5.3.2.2 - Examine indigenous industries in their communities and show the scientific processes in the stages of production.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify at least three indigenous industries operating in their own communities and name the main product of each.
Describe the stages of production in at least one indigenous industry in correct sequence.
Explain the scientific process, concept or principle (such as fermentation, evaporation, heating, or filtration) that underlies at least two stages in an indigenous production process.
Work in groups to investigate and present a simple flow chart of production stages for a chosen indigenous industry, showing where science appears at each stage.
Evaluate and compare two indigenous industries, stating which one better meets criteria such as cost, hygiene and product quality, and justifying the choice.
