Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.5.2.2.2 - Explain the concept of common diseases in an environment.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define a common disease and state at least three characteristics that make a disease “common” in a community.
  2. Conduct a simple community survey on common diseases and present the findings in a table or chart.
  3. Identify the causes, symptoms and prevention methods of at least five common diseases found in their environment.
  4. Analyse survey findings to determine which diseases are most common in their community and explain why.
  5. Compare and contrast common diseases with non-communicable diseases, building on the previous week’s lesson.
