Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.5.1.2.1 - Describe innovative ways of waste management for sustainable development.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain the impact of unmanaged waste on the environment, including effects on land, water, air and human health.
  2. Identify examples of waste types produced within Ghanaian communities and sort them into categories (organic, plastic, e-waste, hazardous, etc.).
  3. Describe at least four innovative waste management technologies and practices, including waste-to-energy, recycling, composting and biogas production, and explain how each supports sustainable development.
  4. Critique the waste management practices currently used in Ghana by listing both positive aspects and areas for improvement.
  5. Select an appropriate innovative waste management solution for a specific community waste problem and justify the choice using clear criteria.
