Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.4.4.1.1 - Explain the concept of pressure and show how pressure relates to force; perform activities that work on the principle of pressure in the daily lives of humans.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define pressure as the force acting perpendicularly on a unit area of a surface, and state its formula (Pressure = Force ÷ Area).
- Explain the relationship between pressure and force, and between pressure and area, using the formula and simple examples.
- Demonstrate the action of pressure through at least two hands-on activities, such as using a drinking straw or pressing a pointed object into a surface.
- Identify and describe at least three everyday situations in Ghana where pressure is applied, such as pumping car tyres, filling balloons, or water jets at washing bays.
- Apply the concept of pressure to explain why some tools are designed with sharp edges or wide bases.
