Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.2.4.2.3 - Perform the feeding of domestic and commercial animals.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Demonstrate the correct procedure for feeding a domestic animal (such as a chicken, goat, or pig) at a specific stage of growth, using the appropriate feed.
  2. Demonstrate the correct procedure for feeding a commercial animal (such as broiler chickens or layers on a school farm) at a specific stage of production.
  3. Calculate the correct quantity of feed to give an animal based on its age, weight, and purpose (growth, egg production, or maintenance).
  4. Handle feed and feeding equipment safely and hygienically, following proper storage and hygiene rules.
  5. Observe and record the feeding behaviour and feed intake of an animal, and report their findings clearly to the class.
