Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.3.2.1.3

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain why regular care and maintenance of cutting and shaping tools is important for safety, tool lifespan and product quality.
  2. Demonstrate at least three correct cleaning, storage and maintenance practices for tools in a named workshop (kitchen, sewing, building, wood or metal/plastics).
  3. Identify common maintenance problems (rust, dull blades, loose handles, clogged teeth) and state the correct remedy for each.
  4. Prepare a simple maintenance schedule for a set of cutting and shaping tools used in a chosen workshop.
  5. Perform a tool care routine (clean, inspect, oil or sharpen where appropriate) on a real tool during the lesson.
