JHS2 Career Technology · Term 2, Week 1

Cutting/shaping

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.3.2.1.2 - Use appropriate techniques to cut and shape artefacts/products

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Select the correct cutting and shaping technique for at least three different materials (food items, fabric/paper, and wood/metal).
  2. Demonstrate the correct steps for shaping a design in a food laboratory, such as moulding banku or cutting biscuits.
  3. Use French curves to shape a neckline or armhole on paper, following a given dress design.
  4. Cut out a designed paper pattern for a shirt, dress, shorts or blouse using proper cutting techniques.
  5. Appraise their own and peers’ finished work using a simple set of criteria and suggest one improvement.

This lesson builds on B8.3.2.1.1 from Term 1, Week 12, where learners identified cutting and shaping tools and their uses. It focuses on applying those tools with correct technique. Care and maintenance of tools will be covered next week in B8.3.2.1.3.
