Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.1.3.2.1 - Identify proper management and disposal of household and industrial waste

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. List at least four different methods of disposing of household and industrial waste, including landfills, combustion, recycling, and composting.
  2. Distinguish between proper and improper methods of waste disposal, giving at least two reasons why sanitary landfill and incineration are preferred over open dumping and open burning.
  3. Explain, in a clear order with relevant details, the steps involved in sorting household waste for recycling.
  4. Work collaboratively in groups to research and report on waste disposal methods used in their own homes and community.
  5. Produce a simple recycled item (e.g., a pencil holder or planting pot) from household waste materials and explain how this practice reduces environmental pollution.
