Algebraic Expressions

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.2.2.1.2 - Perform addition and subtraction of algebraic expressions with rational coefficients.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and group like terms in algebraic expressions involving rational coefficients such as 1/2, 3/4, and 2.5.
  2. Add algebraic expressions with rational coefficients and write the result in simplest form.
  3. Subtract algebraic expressions with rational coefficients and write the result in simplest form.
  4. Simplify expressions that combine both addition and subtraction of terms with rational coefficients.
  5. Use addition and subtraction of algebraic expressions to find the perimeter of simple shapes.
