Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.1.3.1.2 - Compare and order fractions (i.e. common, percent and decimal fractions up to thousandths) limit to the benchmark fractions.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Compare two or more fractions (common, decimal, or percent) by converting them into a common form (fraction, decimal, or percentage).
- Arrange common fractions with different denominators in ascending or descending order by converting them to equivalent fractions with a common denominator.
- Order decimal numbers up to thousandths by comparing place values from left to right.
- Convert benchmark common fractions, decimals, and percentages into one single form to enable fair comparison.
- Solve word problems involving ordering of fractions, decimals, and percentages in real-life situations.

Order the decimal numbers 0.098, 0.985 and0.123 from least to greatest. E.g. 4. Compare and order common and decimal fractions and percent, and express them in one form (i.e. either common, decimal or percent). For instance, to order 0.832, 3 and 38% from least to largest; we 8 have 0.832 = 832 = 83.2%, 1000 → 3 = 375 = 37.5%, 8 1000 38% = 38 = 0.38%, 100 Hence the order from least to the largest is 3 , 38% and 0.832. 8
