Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.1.2.3.1 - Illustrate with examples the meaning of repeated factors using counting objects such as bottle tops or bundle sticks.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify repeated factors in a multiplication expression such as 3 × 3 × 3 and state the value of each factor.
- Build concrete models of repeated factors using bottle tops or bundle sticks to show the total value.
- Explain that a power of a number is a shorthand way of writing repeated multiplication of the same factor.
- Read and write powers using correct vocabulary, identifying the base and the exponent or index in expressions like 2⁵ and 3³.
- Calculate the value of simple powers such as 3³ = 27 and 5² = 25 using concrete or symbolic methods.
