Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.2.1.4.1 - Investigate ways of conserving water in the home, school and community

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. List at least five activities in the home, school and community that require the use of water.
  2. Distinguish between activities that show the wise use of water and activities that show the wastage of water.
  3. Describe at least three methods of making water safe for drinking, such as boiling, filtration and sedimentation.
  4. Identify and explain at least four practical ways of conserving water in the home, school and community.
  5. Create a poster or flyer that promotes water conservation using cut-out pictures and short phrases.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

- Discuss qualities of good drinking water and ways of making water safe for use with learners, e.g. sedimentation, boiling, filtration, adding alum, etc.
- Learners identify activities in the home that require the use of water.
- Learners write various activities which portray the right use of water in the home and other activities that show the wastage of water.
- Discuss ways of using water wisely and efficiently in the home and community with learners.
- Learners create a flyer or posters on water conservation with cut-out pictures and phrases on how to conserve water.
