Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.1.1.4.3 - Perform simple multiplication with integers

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Multiply a positive integer by a negative integer using a number line, starting from zero and hopping to the left.
Multiply two negative integers and state the rule that a negative times a negative gives a positive product.
Multiply a negative integer by a positive integer and explain why the product is negative.
Apply the rules for multiplying integers (same signs give positive, different signs give negative) to solve simple multiplication problems accurately.
Solve word problems involving multiplication of integers in everyday situations and justify their answers.

E.g. 1. Use number line to help learners to multiply integers; learners should always start from zero and skip/hop to the left or write on the number line. For instance, to multiply 3 by (-2), have learners start from zero and hop to the left 3times in an interval of 2.
