Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B6.1.1.6.1 - Locate, compare and order sets of integers using the number line and symbols “< or >”
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Locate integers (positive and negative whole numbers) correctly on a number line.
- Identify the opposite of any given whole number and state the integer that represents it.
- Compare two integers using the symbols “<” (less than) and “>” (greater than).
- Order a set of three or more integers from smallest to largest and from largest to smallest using a number line.
- Justify their comparison of integers by referring to position on the number line.

E.g. 1. Use number line to help learners to identify integers as opposites of whole numbers by answering the following questions: i. Which integer is at the point marked B 1 ? ii. Which integer is larger than B 1 and which is smaller? iii. How many steps away from B is B 1 ?
The indicator is printed B6.1.1.6.1 but the content standard cell beside it prints B6.1.2.6 ("Demonstrate an understanding of integers"). The standard code here follows the indicator's own code; the text is the one printed in the cell.
