Learning Objectives
Indicator: B2.1.1.1.2 - Identify numbers in different positions around a given number in a number chart. (1-1000)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify the numbers directly above, below, to the left, and to the right of a given number in a number chart from 1 to 1000.
- Describe the position of a number relative to another number using words such as above, below, left, and right.
- Locate numbers in the hundreds (100 to 1000) and state which numbers surround them in a number chart.
- Explain the pattern that numbers increase by 1 when moving left to right and by 10 when moving down in a standard number chart.

E.g. 1. Display a number chart with numbers between 0 and 100 and have learners identify numbers in different positions around a given number. Put learners in convenient groups and give each group a number grid and have them identify numbers in different positions around a chosen number. For example, choose 18 and identify numbers above, below, to the right or to the left etc. 24 48 75 12 16 18 86 40 115 259 134 529 203 325 719 686 685 915 982 827
