Learning Objectives

Indicator: B2.4.5.1.2 - Write simple and meaningful sentences on objects found in the environment

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least five objects or places in their immediate environment during a short observation walk.
  2. Verbally describe one observed object or place using a complete sentence.
  3. Write three or more simple and meaningful sentences about what they observed, using correct capital letters at the start and full stops at the end.
  4. Work in a group to write and illustrate sentences about objects in the environment.
  5. Read their own written sentences aloud to a partner with growing confidence.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

- Take learners out on a field-trip outside the school to observe things.
- Discuss the trip and write their observations in simple sentences on the board.
e.g.
i. There is a blue house near the school. ii. The house is small. iii. I saw a big bus. iv. The bus has a driver. v. A big shop is near the school. vi. Taxi cabs are on the road. etc.
- Put learners into groups to write simple sentences about the objects and places found in the environment.
- Encourage each group to add pictures to their sentences.
- Publish their work on the walls and encourage gallery walk.
