Learning Objectives

Indicator: B3.4.9.3.2 - Proofread draft to correct punctuation and spelling errors

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain what proofreading means and why it is important before publishing a piece of writing.
  2. Use the CUPS strategy (Capitalisation, Usage, Punctuation, Spelling) to check their own revised drafts for errors.
  3. Identify and correct at least four punctuation errors (full stops, capital letters, question marks, commas) in a short passage.
  4. Identify and correct at least four spelling errors in a short passage using word knowledge and classroom resources.
  5. Work with a partner to check each other’s writing for punctuation and spelling errors, and give kind, helpful feedback.
