Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.4.1.1.1
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State the two main types of hamza (ء) that appear at the beginning of Arabic words: hamzat al-wasl (همزة الوصل) and hamzat al-qat’ (همزة القطع).
- Explain the rule for writing hamzat al-qat’ (همزة القطع) at the beginning of nouns and verbs, including which vowel sign (fatha, kasra, or damma) it carries.
- Identify whether a given word-initial hamza is hamzat al-wasl or hamzat al-qat’ by examining the word’s meaning and structure.
- Write word-initial hamza correctly in a short Arabic passage, choosing the proper form (أ, إ, or أ with damma) for each noun and verb.
- Distinguish between the written forms of hamzat al-wasl (ا) and hamzat al-qat’ (أ, إ, أُ) when reading and copying Arabic texts.
