Learning Objectives

Indicator: B2.2.3.1.1 - Use common rhyming/endings to decode simple words

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and say aloud the rhyming endings in word families such as -an, -at, -en, and -op.
  2. Form new words by changing the beginning letter of a given word (for example, changing pan to man, fan, or tan).
  3. Read out at least five rhyming words from a word family with correct pronunciation.
  4. Sort given words into their correct word family groups.
  5. Create simple sentences using rhyming words from the same word family.

e.g. pan, man, fan (You may use a phonic slide to give practice).
- Have learners build on these rhyming endings.
- In groups, let learners read out their words.
- Have learners form sentences with these rhyming words.
