SHS2 Applied Technology · Semester 1, Week 12
Welding Technology
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.2.2.LI.4 - Perform drawing, die and presses operation in sheet metal fabrication
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define drawing, die, and press operations and distinguish between drawing and the cutting and bending operations covered in Week 11 and Week 12.
- Identify the main parts of a press tool (die, punch, stripper, blank holder) and state the function of each part.
- Perform a simple drawing operation on sheet metal using available tools to produce a shallow cup or tray, following correct safety procedures.
- Set up a die and press (or a simple press tool substitute) to cut and form sheet metal to a desired shape, demonstrating correct tool selection.
- Evaluate a completed drawn component for common defects such as wrinkling, tearing, and springback, and suggest corrective measures.

Project-based Learning: - Guide learners to perform accurate drawing operations in sheet metal incorporating appropriate sheet metal specifications and selection using appropriate tools and equipment available. - Assist learners to use the die and presses to cut and form sheet metal to the desired shape. Assessment (2.2.2.AS.4). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning. Teaching and Learning Materials: - metal forming tools - sketches /chart - video/YouTube - industrial visit - Sheet metal tools - real object - Soldering equipment
