Welding Technology
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.4.2.LI.4 - Compare the advantages and disadvantages of gas and electric arc welding
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least four advantages and four disadvantages of gas welding, based on their knowledge of the tools and equipment studied in Weeks 8 and 9.
- Identify at least four advantages and four disadvantages of electric arc welding, drawing on the applications explored in Week 10.
- Compare gas welding and electric arc welding side by side using criteria such as cost, portability, heat control, joint quality, and skill required.
- Select the more appropriate welding method for a given practical scenario and justify the choice with at least two clear reasons.
- Work collaboratively in a group to present a balanced report on the advantages and disadvantages of both welding methods, respecting the views of others during discussion.

Group work/collaborative learning: Learners brainstorm and tolerate the views of others to share ideas on advantages and disadvantages of gas and electric arc welding and present report Assessment (1.4.2.AS.4). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning. Teaching and Learning Materials: - Gas welding equipment set up - charts/ sketches - Electric arc welding equipment set up - models - video/YouTube
