Learning Objectives
Indicator: B6.2.6.2.1 - Develop a rich vocabulary stock through extensive reading of age-appropriate text; substituting selected nouns verbs and adjectives in a text with synonyms /near synonyms.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- identify synonyms and near synonyms for selected nouns, verbs and adjectives found in an age-appropriate text.
- substitute given words in a passage with suitable synonyms or near synonyms without changing the meaning of the passage.
- explain why a writer or speaker might choose one synonym over another in a specific context.
- play vocabulary games such as “Word Hunt” and “Lucky Dip” to discover and collect new words from texts.
- record at least five new words in a vocabulary portfolio and use each one in a meaningful sentence.
