Indicator: B4.2.6.4.2 - Recognise the playful use of words in spoken and written language (jokes, riddles)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain what a riddle and a joke are in their own words, giving at least one example of each.
- Identify the playful or trick use of words in at least three riddles or jokes read aloud by the teacher.
- Solve simple riddles by recognising how words can have more than one meaning or sound.
- Work in pairs to compose one original riddle and one short joke that play on words.
- Perform their riddle or joke to the class with clear pronunciation and appropriate expression.

- In pairs/ groups, have learners play on words in educative jokes, riddles and puns. e.g. Riddle, Riddle: I am something that came into this world with earrings. Who am I? Answer: Coal pot
