Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.2.6.1.1 - Use level-appropriate content words (nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs) and function words (prepositions) appropriately in spoken and written communication

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Sort a given list of words into content words (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs) and function words (prepositions).
  2. Explain, in their own words, the difference between content words and function words with at least one example of each.
  3. Use a substitution table to construct at least five complete sentences that combine content words and function words correctly.
  4. Write four original sentences of their own that each contain at least one noun, one verb, one adjective or adverb, and one preposition.
  5. Identify the prepositions in a short passage and state what relationship (place, time, direction) each one shows.
