Learning Objectives

Indicator: B1.2.6.1.2 - Ask questions to find out the meaning of new words

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. recognise when they encounter a word they do not know in a story and identify it by repeating it aloud.
  2. ask the question “What does [word] mean?” to find out the meaning of a new word.
  3. answer simple questions about the meaning of new words from a story.
  4. use at least two new words from the lesson in their own simple sentences.
  5. ask a partner a question to find out the meaning of a word they hear during a short conversation.

This lesson builds on the sight-word reading learners practised in Week 5 (B1.2.6.1.1) and prepares them for using new words in conversation in the next lesson (B1.2.6.1.3).
