Indicator: B5.3.5.1.4 - Use the simple past form of verbs to express past needs, interest and feeling

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the simple past form of verbs in given sentences that express needs, interest and feelings.
  2. Change verbs from the simple present to the simple past form when talking about past needs, interests and feelings.
  3. Use the simple past form of the verbs need, feel, want, like, love, prefer, enjoy and be (was/were) to write sentences expressing past needs, interests and feelings.
  4. Orally share two sentences about a past need and a past feeling using the correct simple past verb forms.

- Review the simple present form of verbs by asking learners to use them in sentences to express needs/preferences, and thoughts/ideas.
- Review the simple past form of verbs by using them to indicate:
- Completed actions or events
- Regular actions in the past
- Introduce the use of the simple past form of verbs in sentences to express needs, interest and feelings.
E.g. Yesterday, I needed some money. I felt his absence badly. I was interested in winning the competition last year.
- Introduce these in turns and provide activities for practice.
