Indicator: B5.3.5.1.1 - Use different types of verbs in sentences
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify the main verb in a given sentence and explain what action or state it expresses.
- Distinguish between main verbs and helping verbs (auxiliary verbs) in sentences.
- Recognise primary auxiliary verbs (is, am, are, was, were, have, has, had) and modal auxiliary verbs (can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must) in a given text.
- Complete sentences by inserting the correct helping verb or main verb.
- Compose their own sentences that contain both a main verb and a helping verb.

- Main verb - Helping verb (primary auxiliary and modal auxiliary - Revise verbs using context. - Let learners identify main verbs in sentences. E.g. The boy has bought a new football. - Provide a text and guide learners to identify auxiliary (Primary and Modal) verbs. E.g. is, was, have, has, had, etc. - Create situations and introduce drills for learners to have practice using them.
