Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.3.5.1.5 - Use the simple past form of verbs for completed actions or events and regular actions in the past.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the simple past form of both regular and irregular verbs in a short story or sentence.
  2. Explain that the simple past tense is used to talk about actions or events that are finished (completed actions) and actions that happened regularly in the past.
  3. Change simple present tense sentences into the simple past tense using regular verbs (adding -ed) and common irregular verbs (e.g., go became went, see became saw).
  4. Complete a conversion drill, changing present tense verbs to past tense verbs correctly in given sentences.
  5. Write three or more simple sentences of their own using the simple past tense to describe completed actions from a familiar event.
