Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.5.3.1.2 - Identify and use: proper nouns to refer to organisations/events

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Define a proper noun and explain how it differs from a common noun.
Identify proper nouns that name organisations and events in a given passage or list.
Use proper nouns for organisations and events correctly in sentences, with capital letters at the beginning.
Sort a mixed list of nouns into the categories: common nouns, proper nouns (organisations), and proper nouns (events).
Work with a partner to complete a pair drill that practises identifying and using proper nouns for organisations and events.

- Revise all the types of nouns with learners (refer to B1-B5).
- Provide learners with opportunities to further practice using these nouns.
E.g. a. Learners take their reading books and identify and make a list of these nouns, use them in sentences and present their work to the class for feedback. b. Use language drills and games to help learners to practice.
e.g. a pair drill for singular/plural nouns
- Learner "A" gives a noun - mango
- Learner "B" gives its plural form "mangoes" and uses it in a sentence - I love mangoes.
- Provide further practice activities to build on learners' knowledge on nouns.
