Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B5.5.4.1.4 - Use singular and plural subjects and the verb forms that go with them.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify singular and plural subjects in given sentences and state the verb form that matches each subject.
- Match singular subjects (he, she, it, a singular noun) with the correct present tense verb form (adds -s or -es) and plural subjects (they, we, plural nouns) with the base verb form.
- Complete sentences by choosing the correct verb form for both singular and plural subjects across the simple present, simple past, present perfect, and past perfect tenses.
- Write four original sentences of their own, two with singular subjects and two with plural subjects, using at least two different tenses from the list.
- Correct errors in subject-verb agreement in a short given passage by rewriting the incorrect verb forms.
This lesson builds on the work done in Term 3, Week 9 (B5.5.4.1.1) and the earlier slots this week (B5.5.4.1.2 and B5.5.4.1.3), where learners distinguished between the simple past and present perfect, used the simple past for past needs and feelings, and used the past perfect. Today we bring all these tenses together under the rule of subject-verb agreement.
