Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.5.4.1.2 - Demonstrate the use of the simple past form in speech and in writing to express past conditions

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the simple past form of at least 10 regular and irregular verbs when they see or hear them.
  2. Change present tense verbs to their simple past forms in speech, both for regular verbs (add -ed) and common irregular verbs (go, come, eat, see, take, have, etc.).
  3. Use the simple past form correctly in oral sentences to describe conditions or situations that happened yesterday, last week, or in the past.
  4. Rewrite a short paragraph from the present tense into the simple past tense, keeping the meaning the same.
  5. Peer edit a partner’s written work, checking specifically for correct simple past verb forms.

- Assign learners to do an activity e.g. let learners, in small groups, re-write the letters they wrote previously in the simple past tense (Refer to B4.5.4.1.1).
