Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
Help learners identify the key elements of a book's front matter (Title, Author/Writer, and Illustrator). Using interactive reading, have learners track the text as you read. Run a pointer under the words as you read. Pause often and have learners tell you the number of words in a sentence. Have learners identify the illustration(s) that matched well with the print (illustration that made them understand the print better). Have them draw (replicate) their favourite illustration.
