Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.4.1.LI.3 - Demonstrate how to care for and maintain machines
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain why regular care and maintenance of woodwork machines is essential for safety, accuracy and machine longevity.
- Identify the routine maintenance tasks required for the mortising/drilling machine, router shaping machine, grinding machine, lathe machine and drum sander machine.
- Demonstrate the correct procedure for cleaning, lubricating and inspecting at least two woodwork machines in the workshop.
- Describe common faults that arise from poor maintenance and the steps to prevent them.
- Practise safe maintenance habits, including switching off and isolating machines before any cleaning or adjustment is done.
