Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.2.1.1.1 - Explore and study performing artworks of some international performing artists and analyse how their compositions reflect the history and culture of some communities in the world

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Identify at least four international performing artists from different countries and name their countries of origin.
  • Describe the type of performing artwork (music, dance, comedy, acting) associated with each artist studied.
  • Explain how at least two specific works, such as Bob Marley’s “Exodus”, reflect the history or culture of the communities they came from.
  • Write a brief profile of one international performing artist using the seven guidelines (name, country, training, type of artworks, titles of works, preferred compositions, contribution to the industry).
  • Present their artist brief to the class and respond to questions from peers about how the artist’s work reflects their community’s history and culture.

Learners are to:
- use OERs (e.g. library, videos, Facebook, internet) to study and share the artworks of some international performing artists (e.g. Michael Jackson, Fred Astaire, Elton John, Bright Okpocha (Basket Mouth), Osei Boateng, Fela Ransome Kuti, Bob Marley, Kojo Antwi, Seidou Keita, Eddie Murphy);
- discuss the works of the international artists studied in relation to the history and cultures of some communities in the world. For example, 'Exodus' by Bob Marley;
- write briefs about choice of artists using the following guidelines:
- Name
- Country of origin
- Training
- Type of artworks
- Title of some works
- Preferred compositions and performances
- Contribution to the development of the performing arts industry.
